Our mission

Our mission is to provide meaningful outdoor education experiences.  We strive to foster a deep appreciation for nature, promote conservation, and ensure every guest leaves with a renewed sense of adventure and a lasting connection to the wild.

Jason Matthews / Founder

Called an “Encyclopedia” by the New York Times,  Jason Matthews is a wildlife conservationist, storyteller and photographer, who has lived and worked in Montana for over 30 years.   He has worked in numerous national parks across the American West and Alaska, including Yellowstone, Glacier and Denali.  

As an Explorer, he has been on 25 Arctic expeditions, traveling from Greenland to Hudson Bay, Canada to Nome, Alaska retracing the route of Knud Rasmussen's monumental Fifth Thule Expedition, and to document the impact of Climate Change on Native Dogsledding cultures across the Arctic.  In 2017 he received a grant through Columbia University, to travel to Tibet and teach Outdoor Leadership, and Wilderness First Aid to Indigenous Tibetan Guides.

Jason has worked as an Outdoor Education instructor /teacher for Montana State University /Bozeman, the Voyageur Outward Bound School of Ely, MN, the USGS Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center, and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks

For his work in Wildlife Conservation he received a National Geographic, Expeditions Council grant to document both Polar Bears and Brown Bears in Alaska. He has worked on projects researching Wolverines, Elk and Wolves in Montana and has represented the Alaska Wilderness League in Washington DC to share the plight of the Polar Bear with members of the Senate and Congress.  Jason has traveled to numerous states and provinces as a Speaker presenting on Bear Conservation and in 2012 he created one of the largest online Bear Conservation groups, Yellowstone Bears, which now has over 29,000 members.

Jason’s photos and stories have been published in a variety of regional and national publications, and as a videographer, his content has been used by National Geographic and National Geographic Wild TV, as well as on the BBC.  He has appeared on the Drew Barrymore Show, Animal Planet, National Geographic Channel and more

Jason is a Fellow of both The Explorer’s Club and the Royal Geographical Society.
